A major education investment brings expanded learning opportunities, modern facilities, and new hope to Quardu-Gboni District.
A major education investment brings expanded learning opportunities, modern facilities, and new hope to Quardu-Gboni District.

LOFA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Education has officially turned over and dedicated the newly constructed Barkedu Senior Secondary School, marking a significant milestone for a community whose school has served generations of learners since 1966.

What was once a junior secondary institution has now been expanded to provide senior secondary education, bringing higher-level learning opportunities closer to students in the district.

The new school represents more than bricks and classrooms. It is an investment in the future of young Liberians.

Students will now benefit from furnished classrooms, modern science laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, solar-powered electricity, improved water and sanitation facilities, and enhanced spaces for teachers and school administrators.

The investment also extends directly to students. Book bags, menstrual hygiene kits for girls, and hygiene kits for boys were distributed as part of the initiative.

Adding another layer of opportunity, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah announced opportunities for qualified students from Quardu-Gboni to pursue tertiary scholarships in Teacher Education.

The initiative could help create a pipeline of trained educators drawn from the community itself—young people who can eventually return to serve the next generation of students.

The dedication brought together community leaders, women, traditional and religious leaders, parents, educators, and students, all united in celebrating the new chapter for Barkedu.

Beyond celebrating the achievement, community members committed themselves to protecting and preserving the school so that future generations can benefit from the investment.

For Quardu-Gboni, Barkedu Senior Secondary School is a symbol of possibility: better facilities, broader opportunities, and a stronger foundation for the future of its young people.

And the message from Lofa is clear:

This is not the end. More opportunities, more investments, and more good news are on the way.
