Liberian Passport Holders Gain Access to 34 African Destinations

Liberian passport holders can now travel to 34 African destinations through visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival, and other simplified arrangements.

According to 2026 passport mobility data updated September 11, Liberia ranks 42nd among 54 African countries, with access to about 64 percent of the continent.

The development is largely linked to Liberia’s participation in ECOWAS free-movement protocols, which allow visa-free travel across all 15 West African countries.

Liberians also enjoy additional travel access to countries including Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, and the Central African Republic.

The progress comes amid increased diplomatic efforts under Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, as the government seeks to expand Liberia’s international mobility.

However, Liberia’s global passport ranking remains low, with a mobility score of 57 and a ranking of 162nd out of 199 countries.

Liberians still require visas to travel to most destinations in Europe, the Gulf, North America, and the Middle East.

The Foreign Ministry says it is pursuing bilateral visa-waiver agreements, modernizing consular services, and promoting reciprocal travel arrangements.

The government says the expanded access could create new opportunities for Liberian businesses, students, and professionals across Africa.
